To utilize fat Animals & birds have to digest & absorb it from gastrointestinal tract Since Fat is insoluble in water & difficult to handle in liquid. as in the gastrointestinal tract water insoluble ingredients like fatty acids, fat soluble vitamins & certain amino acids relay on emulsification to become water soluble & there by bioavailable.
Phospholipids plays an important role in nutrition as an emulsifying agent & helps in the digestion of fat, also helps in acid absorption by the formation of micelle structure.
Phospholipids are surface active substance & therefore can be used as an emulsifier, absorption enhancer dispersant agent & vetting agent.
Lipdex is a specific class of Phospholipids ( Lysophospholipids) which is scientifically produced to enables absorption of nutrients as it is more hydrophilic than other phospholipids.
Lipidex Spontaneously form Micells with bill salt , Fatty acids & Monoglycerides. This micells are smaller & More stable than those formed with other phospholipids.
Limitations In Lipid Digestion & Absorption:
– The diet in modern poultry farming is providedwith higher nutrient and energy concentration.
– Inadequate bile secretion in young age.
– Without emulsification, lipase cannot act.
– Reduced marketing age of broilers.
– With increase in oil content in the diet and the age of bird, the bile secretion does not increase linearly.
– Long chain fatty acids are more hydrophobic and are poorly absorbed without micelle formation.
– NSP’s in feed increases the intestinal viscosity which may have the negative impact on the digestibility of nutrients including lipids.
Therefore, there is genuine need of providing biosurfactants / emulsifiers through diet to maximise the bio-availability of provided nutrients which otherwise may have gone waste due to limited production of endogenic biosurfactant.
